And Man Created Dog

Mental Floss alerted me to the National Geographic special And Man Created Dog. I'd love to see it, but the site is worth visiting all by itself. Great info and even a fun quiz that tells you what breed you're most similar to. I got beagle. Go figure.

My Dog Tulip
![]()
Just heard about this movie, My Dog Tulip, and it looks pretty good. I guess I'll have to wait for the DVD, though, as I don't think this will be making it to Portland, Maine.
I haven't read the book, but plan on picking that up, too.

Cat in a Box
Not about dogs, but this video pretty much nails cats and boxes. Put me in a good mood this morning! (Thanks, Unleashed.)

A Few Links Before the Weekend

I don't know about you, but I'm ready for the weekend. Beautiful, sunny weather here in Maine right now. And I'm definitely happy I was not on the road this morning, particularly 93, where a dog got caught on the highway.
Also from the Globe, a nice mention of a girl who helped a police dog get a bullet-proof vest.

Origins

Mental Floss's post "How 13 Dog Breeds Got Their Names" is really interesting. I didn't know all of that, did you?

Chunk Handler

I'm perplexed that Chelsea Handler's dog, Chunk, has a Twitter account, and one with over 73,000 followers, but that's Hollywood for you, I guess.

Corgis in Life Jackets
Sorry, had some technical difficulties yesterday, when I wanted to share this video, which I watched over and over. The slow motion really makes it.

A Very Grave Issue
Also, I found this piece about dogs off-leash in cemeteries very interesting. What do you think? Should dogs be allowed to run amongst the tombstones or do you find it disrespectful?

Today's Theme: Saving Lives...or Not?
This image is making the rounds and initially I was totally drawn into it. The story goes that this monkey saved this puppy's life after a pipeline explosion in Nanjing, China recently...except that you can see the same photo here from 2008. Wherever this photo came from, it's pretty amazing.
