And Man Created Dog

Posted by: Luke Pfeifle

Mental Floss alerted me to the National Geographic special And Man Created Dog. I'd love to see it, but the site is worth visiting all by itself. Great info and even a fun quiz that tells you what breed you're most similar to. I got beagle. Go figure.

Not about dogs, but this video pretty much nails cats and boxes. Put me in a good mood this morning! (Thanks, Unleashed.)

Mental Floss's post "How 13 Dog Breeds Got Their Names" is really interesting. I didn't know all of that, did you?

Corgis in Life Jackets

Posted by: Luke Pfeifle

Sorry, had some technical difficulties yesterday, when I wanted to share this video, which I watched over and over. The slow motion really makes it.

A Very Grave Issue

Posted by: Melanie Montembeau

Also, I found this piece about dogs off-leash in cemeteries very interesting. What do you think? Should dogs be allowed to run amongst the tombstones or do you find it disrespectful?

Today's Theme: Saving Lives...or Not?

Posted by: Luke Pfeifle

This image is making the rounds and initially I was totally drawn into it. The story goes that this monkey saved this puppy's life after a pipeline explosion in Nanjing, China recently...except that you can see the same photo here from 2008. Wherever this photo came from, it's pretty amazing.

Service Animals, aka Service Dogs

Posted by: Luke Pfeifle

The Department of Justice recently revised ADA regulations to exclude exotic animals, or any animals other than dogs, as service animals. Read Beth Finke's opinion on this over at the Bark

Friday Cat Video

Posted by: Luke Pfeifle

The Awl's newsletter today had a Friday cat video, posted below, which works for me.

This weekend I'm taking the grandkids to the lake and you can guess what we'll be doing tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 (well, G. will be napping but R. and I will be in front of the T.V.) - U.S.A.! U.S.A.!

Dog Poop, CSI-style

Posted by: Luke Pfeifle

A lot of time and money, but I bet people in this Baltimore neighborhood would be better about picking up after their dogs.

Okay, and wow, apparently people all over the world have been doing this much longer than Baltimore. I found this story about this city in Israel, which has had potentially cleaner streets since 2008.

The New Delegates

Gawker has the story on this art installation in Melbourne that has dachshunds acting as delegates. Nice choice! I can see the resemblance.
